  • Jeffrey L. Munn, DVM


    Dr. Munn received his DVM degree from NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997.  His 
    undergraduate study was also at NC State, graduating with a B.S. in Animal Science.  He first began practice in the Concord area and has been in the greater Charlotte region since 1997.  Dr. Munn has the greatest interest in ophthalmology and cardiology.  He has had editorial publication in Veterinary Forum, and the NCVMA quarterly. Honors include past and present membership in Phi Zeta, the Veterinary Medical Honor Society and recipient of Award for Excellence in Small Animal Internal Medicine, 1997. In 2011, Dr. Munn was honored in Top Vets of Charlotte region.

    Dr. Munn has developed a keen interest in optimizing pet health by improving function at the cellular level, especially with the use of light therapy/therapeutic laser. Our team performs laser therapy on our patients on a daily basis.

  • Mauricio R. Amat, DVM

    Dr. Mauricio Amat was raised in Miami, FL. He came to North Carolina to attend Wake Forest University and fell in love with the state. At Wake Forest, he studied Biology and History. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from North Carolina State University where his focus was companion animal surgery. In 1997, he received the Donald R. Howard Award for Surgical Excellence. Dr. Amat has practiced in the greater Charlotte area since 1997. In 2002, he co-founded  Poplar Animal Hospital with Dr. Munn. His greatest areas of interest within veterinary medicine are general surgery (soft tissue and surgical oncology) and orthopedic surgery. Dr. Amat currently represents North and South Carolina on a Veterinary Advisory Council which conducts meetings with other veterinarians and pharmaceutical companies throughout the nation.

    Dr. Amat enjoys outdoor activities, including mountain biking, soccer, running, hiking and kayaking. He lives with his daughter Hallie who is an avid reader, soccer player, and triathlete.

  • Sandra Justis, DVM

    Dr. Justis is a 1990 graduate of North Carolina State Veterinary School.  After graduation she worked in Woodbridge, VA for 3 years before returning home to Concord. She then worked at Concord Animal Clinic and Stoney Creek Animal Hospital, before joining Poplar Animal Hospital in 2009. Her interests include medicine, preventative care and client education with special consideration for geriatric care, feline medicine and dermatology.

     

    Personal interests: Gardening, cooking and helping design wood projects with her husband.

     

    Personal goal: To honor the bond our clients and animals share as family members by delivering the quality and compassionate care that the owner and pet deserve.

  • Candace Stroud, DVM

    Dr. Candace Stroud is originally from Hertford County, NC and now lives in Concord. While in veterinary school she met Dr. Amat and later came to see the clinic. She really liked the area and the people and joined the team as a veterinarian in 2017! Like all of our vets, she is a graduate of North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
    Dr. Stroud has always had an interest in biology and medicine; she decided to become a veterinarian after adopting an older dog, Penny, who had breast cancer. After Penny’s passing, she started to rehabilitate feral dogs and even adopted one of her more difficult cases. In 2017 she was awarded the North Carolina State award for excellence in the field of Animal Behavior. Because of these life experiences, Dr. Stroud has a special interest and has taken extra training in behavior, quality of life, and geriatric care. She is also interested in finding ways to make veterinary visits more comfortable for the feline population and is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
    Dr. Stroud is married to Zach Stroud and they have several furry, feathered, scaled and even 8-legged children! When she is not at Poplar Animal Hospital she is cooking, reading, writing and doing crochet.

  • Benjamin C. Holmes, DVM

    Dr. Holmes grew up in Concord, NC and went to NC State University originally intending to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After a year and a half, he had a change of heart and decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine and has never looked back. He graduated from NC State in 2012 and then attended NC State's College of Veterinary Medicine graduating with his DVM in 2016. He loves interacting with and educating clients and works as hard as he can to keep his patients healthy. Particular subjects which interest him include preventive medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, and client education. 

    Dr. Holmes is married to his high school sweetheart Jen who is a middle school teacher. They have a miniature Dachshund named Ody and two tabby cats (Izzy and AJ). Outside of work he enjoys being outdoors (hiking, backpacking, camping, rock climbing, etc.), dabbling in photography, and playing guitar.

  • Shannon Eudy (Hospital Manager)

    Shannon has been a part of the PAH team for 4 years.  She has been working as a veterinary technician for 12 years.  She currently resides in Stanly County, NC with her fiancé Dustin, and 4 children Kenzi, Kayden, Addy, and Decker.  She has 3 dogs Dixie, Archie, and Minnie and 3 cats Sally, Miney, and Moe.  Shannon enjoys spending time with her family, reading, camping, and attending music festivals.  She loves the NFL and fantasy football. GO PANTHERS!!!

  • Heather Rhew, RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician)

    Heather has been with us from the very beginning! She is a Registered Veterinary Technician who completed the Veterinary Technology program through Gaston Community College. She is married and has four beautiful children that keep her life at home fun, but very busy! She also has one cat, Tigger, that adds to the fun!

  • Katy Bradley (Lead Technician)

    Katy grew up in Kannapolis, NC.  She acquired her bachelors degree in Animal and Poultry Sciences from Virginia Tech in 2009.  She has worked in the veterinary field since 2002 with dogs and cats, as well as large animals. She is an active runner and competitive horseback rider in her spare time. Katy has two horses, Lady and Grady, along with three dogs, Biko, Reese, and LeDoux.

  • Sydney Dunn (Veterinary Assistant)

    Sydney came to us in April 2016. She has been doing rescue work since 2009. She loves working with animals. She has 5 dogs-Carmen, Ava, Sassy, Lincoln, and Leia and 3 cats-Salem, Maxie, and Gordy.

  • Becky Watson (Veterinary Assistant)

    Becky was born in a naval station in Puerto Rico and grew up moving all around the US. She originally went to school to be a pastry chef, but ultimately decided that her true path was the veterinary field, where she now has over 18 years of experience. Becky lives with her husband, Keith, and has two kids, Bryan and Brandon. Her house is also filled with pets including 2 Irish Wolfhounds named Biff and Tormund, 2 cats named Raziel and Catch, 2 ferrets named Arya and Samwise, and 2 guinea pigs named Giggles and Babd. In her spare time, Becky enjoys cooking for her family, quilting, and is also a huge Game of Thrones fan.

    Lindy has been apart of the PAH team for 8 years. She currently works part-time for PAH and full time conducting clinical research. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband Michael and her 5 fur children: Dobby, Herbert, Laycee, Nymeria, and Zeppelin.

  • Kassidy Stanford (Veterinary Assistant)

    Kassidy has been a veterinary assistant at PAH since August of 2018. She is originally from Lexington, NC, but moved to Charlotte in 2017 to attend UNC Charlotte. There, she decided to pursue her veterinary technician degree and  now attends an online program through Cedar Valley College. She has always loved animals and is interested in learning all aspects, from basic nutrition to surgery. One day, she hopes to become a registered veterinary technician and specialize in emergency care. She has 2 Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Kobe and Lilo. When she is not at PAH, her hobbies include going to the gym or relaxing outdoors with her pups!

  • Brittany Newell (Veterinary Assistant)

    Brittany was born in Marion, OH, but was raised Harrisburg, NC. She has been a part of our team since December 2018. She has a lot of experience working in the veterinary field with race horses, but decided to step back from that to work with smaller animals. She has two cats, Jasper and Tigerlilly. Brittany's hobbies in her spare time include painting and crafts.

  • Martha Upshaw (Veterinary Assistant)

    Martha came to our practice in March 2019 as a veterinary assistant. She is originally from Greenville, SC. Martha started in human health, but in 2007 she decided that veterinary medicine was a better fit where she found her passion for preventative care and dentistry. In 2013, Martha and her husband moved to Concord to be closer to their favorite sport, NASCAR. Martha is also a big Clemson fan. When she is not helping in the practice, she likes to hike, cook, and spend time with her family that includes 2 dogs and 3 cats.

  • Chrystal Frances (Veterinary Assistant)

    Chrystal was born and raised in Newark, NJ. She began her career in the vet industry in 2014 when she moved to Raleigh and got a job as a receptionist at a local animal hospital. She then moved to Concord in 2017 and joined the PAH team as a technician that year. Chrystal loves huskies and has two of her own named Kiyoshi and Amren. She one day hopes to own a husky rescue! She also likes to read, paint, and dance when she isn't working.

  • Chase Edwards (Veterinary Assistant)

    Chase was born and raised here in Concord, NC and started working in the veterinary field in 2012, shadowing at Cabarrus Animal Hospital. He came to us in 2017 to be a kennel assistant during the summer to get more experience to apply to vet school, and he is now a veterinary assistant! Chase enjoys working with animals and learning anything and everything about them so that he can use this knowledge when he gets to vet school. He has one dog, a shar-pei named Shadow. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and playing PlayStation. He is also pretty cool!

  • Carly Ware (Veterinary Assistant)

    Carly is another one of our employees that was born and raised right here in Concord! She has been working in this field for almost 8 years, starting with a job at Camp Bow Wow. She began working here at PAH as a veterinary assistant in 2015. One thing she loves about her job is caring for each animal and being able to learn a lot in the process. Carly has two dogs of her own, pitbulls named Max and Baxley. In her free time, she likes to go to the lake, watch movies, and bake!

  • Sarah Morrison (Receptionist)

    Sarah was born in Rowan county and grew up in Kannapolis, NC. She has been working for us since 2004! Since she has been working here for so long, one of her favorite parts of the job is being able to know almost every single client who walks through the door. Sarah has 5 dachshunds and 6 cats. Besides working here, she also enjoys spending her time working in her yard, working out, and running 5k races.

  • Shelby Whitley (Receptionist)

    Shelby has been a part of the PAH family since 2017. She grew up in the small town of Denver, NC and lived there until she moved to Concord in 2009. She now lives on a small farm with her two children, Addilyn and Hunter, along with dogs, horses, chickens, and goats. In her free time, she enjoys horseback riding, rodeos, and fishing.

  • Kayla Brafford (Receptionist)

    Kayla was born and raised in Concord, NC and has loved animals her whole life. She came to us in February, 2018 and has enjoyed being a receptionist because she likes helping clients solve their problems. Kayla has two dogs of her own, a lab named Noley and a chihuahua named Little Boy. When she isn't at the front desk making calls or answering questions, she likes to spend her time going to concerts or hanging out with friends and family.

  • Xabrina Rhoades (Receptionist)

    Xabrina was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She has worked with us in reception since 2017. Her favorite part about working in the veterinary field is being able to help clients with their issues and ensuring health for their pet. Xabrina has a french bulldog named Prescott that she enjoys spending time with when she isn't working. She also likes watching Disney movies and collects anything related to "The Beauty and the Beast."

  • Kailey Ziffra (Receptionist)

    Kailey was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She started with us in September, 2018 as a receptionist, which she enjoys very much. She is also a student, taking social justice classes online through Arizona State University to pursue her dream of saving the world! Kailey currently has 2 dogs, Ava and Bayley, and 2 cats, Pickles and Oakley. During her free time, she likes to hike, cook, and read. Her favorite book of all time is "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.

    Caitlin grew up in Manchester, Tennessee and earned her degree in Women's Studies at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2014. While living in Chattanooga, she was lucky enough to work at one of the largest animal shelters in east Tennessee where her passion for animals grew. She moved to Charlotte with her husband, Jonathan in 2015. Caitlin has two children, Rowan and her fur baby Roxi. In her spare time she enjoys baking, reading Harry Potter, and spending time with family and friends whenever possible.

  • Kate Erickson (Receptionist)

    Kate was hired as a receptionist in April, 2017. She came to us from Connecticut, where she was born and raised. Her favorite part about being a receptionist for us is the dedication each employee has to their job and to the dogs and cats they care for every day. Kate has 2 dogs, Lila and Luke, and two cats, Odin and Freyja. In her spare time, she likes to garden, read, and spend time with her friends and family.

  • Brandy Spears (Kennel Manager)

    Brandy is a kennel assistant here at PAH, and has been working here since 2016. Though she started here 3 years ago, she has been working with dogs for over 5 years. She is First Aid certified for dogs and cats and also spent 2 years as a Certified Dog Trainer & Behavior Moderator for Camp Bow Wow. She has 3 dogs, Ellie Tide, Beethoven (Bae for short), and Budweiser. She also has two bearded dragons, Cocoa and Puff! When she is not working, you can find her in her backyard hanging with her dogs and husband, Randy! She also enjoys making crafts and painting.

  • Nicole Foggin (Kennel Assistant/Receptionist)

    Nicole was born and raised right here in Concord and began working for us in 2018. She enjoys being able to work in both the kennel and reception as she gets time to help both the animals and their owners. Now that she has graduated high school, Nicole plans on joining the army. She also has two dogs of her own, Kuechly and Olsen. In her spare time, Nicole enjoys going camping, hiking, and kayaking!

  • Lindsay Coronis (Groomer)

    Lindsay moved to North Carolina from New York (Binghamton). She is very proud of her NY roots! Lindsay has been our groomer since 2008 but has been grooming pets for over nine years! She loves spending time with her fiance and her two sons; Kaleb and Kody.  They also have  dogs; Abel, Jada, Kane, Precious and Sasha.
